Download Day 2008

Download Day 2008 has arrived. Mozilla is attempting to set a new world record with the new Firefox 3 by accumulating the most downloads over a 24 hour period. I have been using the Firefox 3 betas for awhile now and must say that it is a great improvement over Firefox 2. The speed and memory improvements alone are worth the download. If you have not given Firefox a shot before, do yourself a favor and give it a try.

Firefox 3 Beta – Address Bar Items

I have been using the Firefox 3 Beta since Beta 4, currently Beta 5. Probably the most notable new feature is the Address Bar, which not only searches the entire URL, but also the title and your bookmarks. It has taken me a little while to get used to this, but I am really enjoying this new feature.

This leads me to the point of this post. By default the address bar now only shows the top 12 addresses arranged by number of visits with the top results at the top. For me having just 12 items in the address bar is not enough for me, so I checked the preferences and I saw no way of changing this. Next, I checked the about:config page by typing about:config and hit enter.

(Warning: You can really screw up your Firefox install if you do not know what you are doing.)

The setting you are looking for to change the number of items in the address bar is browser.urlbar.maxRichResults. If you double click on this setting a dialog will pop up and you can change the number to anything you desire, I went with 25.

Creative Suite CS3 – Release Date

Looks like Creative Suite CS3 will be released announced on March 27th. I have played with the Photoshop beta for awhile and the speed increase on my Intel Macbook is amazing. The only thing that was annoying was the bug where you could not see the brush outline. There is a workaround where you had to run CS3 in Rosetta, but the last time I checked a little while back it was fixed internally and would be in the final build. Now I am waiting to see what the different suite options will be.

Update: March 27th will be the announcement date with shipping date to follow at a later time. Darn.
